Like a Family Reunion - June 23, 2008 On May 31, over 400 friends and neighbors showed up at our new headquarters to officially kick off the campaign. It was like a family reunion, but lots of new folks came as well. We have also had a couple of great weeks of press coverage, with several stories appearing in the Review-Journal, a couple of Ralston flashes, some television news and several radio interviews. Last week, a story in the Review-Journal noted "Porter in tough company: Analysis shows his district is among most vulnerable." Then came a R-J opinion poll showing us in a tight race, within the margin of error and a separate poll in which 58% of the residents in Congressional District 3 rated Porter's performance as fair or poor. As a result, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has named us to it's national Red to Blue priority candidates list. During the last month, I proudly marched with striking building trades brothers and sisters at the City Center Project, spoken to the Henderson Democratic Club, and received an award from Clint Holmes and the Hands Across the Arts Project. I was also honored to present the Vernon Jordan award to Sen. Steven Horsford at the Urban League Dinner and spoke to the Clark County Women's Democratic Club. WOW! As you can tell, I like to go everywhere; so please let me know of any upcoming events we should attend. If two people are gathered, even if it's in a phone booth, I want to be there asking about their concerns and talking about how to change things for the better. Hope to hear from you soon.
