LV SUN - Titus separates herself from the pack |

WASHINGTON - Moments after being sworn in at the Capitol as Nevada's newest congresswoman three months ago, Dina Titus briskly made the quarter-mile walk back to her office in unexpected discomfort.
Marble halls are not kind on tired feet, especially those in dressy multi-inch heels.
She hustled down the long corridor, past other lawmakers and their families on that festive day. Dozens of guests were waiting to celebrate at her office.
The scene brought to mind another ever-witty Democratic politician with a distingusihed Southern drawl: Ann Richards, the former governor of Texas, who joked about women doing everthing that men do - but, as Ginger Rogers showed, backwards and in high heels.
In the nearly 100-day sprint since, Titus accomplished what she often taught her political science students at UNLV was impossible for a freshman lawmaker in Washington: She has been noticed.

The Virginia Informer: How did your William and Mary education prepare you for a lifetime of service?
Congresswoman Titus: Well, [my William and Mary education] fostered my interest in the field of politics and after I went on to graduate school and to teach politics, it seemed so natural that I would get into it. But also, just the inspirational side of being in the cradle of American democracy, it's hard to not be inspired. Even now, whe I walk outside and see the Capitol Building in any light of day, that kind of tugs at my heart. I think that feeling goes back to those days when I was a student at William and Mary.

LV Sun - Titus to teachers: State needs long-term fix |

LAS VEGAS - Rep. Dina Titus told educators Thursday afternoon that while the economic stimulus package will help Nevada's schools, there is still much work to be done at the state level.
The federal stimulus package signed into law this week could provide Nevada school districts with more than $622 million over the next two years, but Titus told educators at Del Sol High School that they need to encourage legislators to work on a long-term fix for education funding.

R-J: Titus secures seat on third committee |
January 29, 2009
Rep. Dina Titus, D-Nev., has been named to her third committee in the House, getting a special waiver from the Democratic leadership to serve on more than the usual number of committees.
Titus, the newly elected representative of the suburban Clark County 3rd District, was awarded a spot on the Homeland Security Committee on Wednesday.

Following the en masse oath of office, Congresswoman Titus participated in a ceremonial swearing-in with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in which she was sworn in with her grandfatherʼs Greek Bible.
